Stop ICE in Newport!
Postcard Campaign

ICE is reportedly opening a facility in Newport at 12 Water St., which previously housed the Newport District Courthouse. The building is owned by lawyer Charles Cox.

On September 10, 15 clergy signed a letter that was delivered to Cox’s Bangor office, asking him to reconsider his decision to rent to an agency that “threatens the neighbors we are called to love” (Bangor Daily News, Sept. 10, 2026). The clergy requested that Cox respond by the following Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Cox has not responded.

We are asking people across the state to join us in a campaign to inundate Cox’s office with postcards.

The idea is to purchase multiple postcards. (The ones from the USPS are the cheapest. They come stamped and cost 73 cents each). Send one each day, each with a different message. You can use the ones on the page linked below or create your own. We suggest signing your first name only, no return address.

We’ve created a separate page that includes the letter that the clergy sent to Mr. Cox, the complete list of the instructions for this action, and the list of the 75 people who have died at the hands of ICE and CBP since Trump took office in January 2025. You can find that page here.

Maine AllCare is working on their legislative strategy for 2027, including introducing a bill that would establish a health care planning board, a critical step in achieving universal healthcare coverage for all Mainers.

This bill will be sponsored by Rep. Michelle Boyer (Cape Elizabeth) and co-sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Teresa Pierce (Falmouth).

Maine lawmakers and legislative candidates need to hear from you now! We need as many voices as possible advocating for a publicly funded universal healthcare solution for Maine.

Be an Election Worker this November

Maine Town & City Clerks' Association seal

In Maine, citizens are needed to help administer the elections for their community. Every town and city in the state lines up citizen workers for every election. Working at elections can be a very enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Go here for more info! It’s a great experience!

People Powered Maine

People Powered Maine banner with illustrated circles showing a house, the Capitol, a hammer, a dove, and Lady Justice

Every campaign in Maine builds a volunteer network and throws it away the day after Election Day. People Powered Maine was built not to. They’re keeping volunteers organized town by town on healthcare, housing, wages, and hospitals, election year or not. And they don’t endorse: candidates answer volunteers’ questions, and each volunteer decides who to organize for.

PPM is looking for volunteers and local leaders in Penobscot County. Don’t see your town on the map? That’s your opening! Sign up to volunteer here! Want to lead a group? Email Mitchell at mitchell@peoplepoweredmaine.org.

Verify Your Registration and
Request your Absentee Ballot Now!

Vote411 has a handy site where anyone can click their state on a map and go to a site to verify their registration. For states without a verification tool, you will be connected to a directory of election offices in your state. The nationwide site is here. Vote411 sends Maine voters to the Maine.gov voter lookup. It is worth contacting your local town office if you are unsure of your voting status. It’s best to be sure now and make a plan!

Request your Absentee Ballot

Absentee ballots for the November 3 election are going out now! If you haven’t requested yours, you still can, and once it arrives, fill it out and return it promptly. Go here for the form to request and go here for more information. Tell your friends!

According to the Maine Secretary of State, in-person absentee voting at town and city halls runs through Thursday, October 29, and all absentee ballots must be received by your town or city by 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3.

And check out www.iwillvote.com/me for all sorts of great resources, a DNC site.

Please Consider

Can you host volunteers during the elections?

From Maine Dems Coordinated Campaign:
As we enter the final stretch, our volunteer operation is accelerating fast. Every additional door knocked and every conversation held in these final weeks can shift outcomes. Our supporter housing network is key to making this all possible.

We’re working to refocus and expand our list of supporters who can host volunteers for shorter stays or during specific high-volume GOTV periods. If you’re able to help or have folks in your network who could help, even for a night or two, please fill out the supporter housing form below with just your email! Your response helps us place volunteers quickly and keep our field team fully deployed where they’re needed most.

FORM LINK: SUPPORTER HOUSING OPT IN

(For clarification, opting in only means that you are okay with receiving requests from out of state volunteers for supporter housing – not that you are guaranteeing anything!)
