Hello, and thank you for reading the Indivisible Bangor newsletter. Boy, last week was a doozy for me, but I’m feeling pretty swell now, so here is a more complete newsletter.
Important Community Notice

Troy Jackson Town Halls

Our next senator, Troy Jackson, will be hosting town halls across the state starting on September 1st in Lewiston. Click here to visit the campaign’s Mobilize page for a list of other town halls happening! And check back often for updated to this list!
ACLU’s KNOW YOUR RIGHTS University

With school starting and the Trump administrations history of raiding schools, the ACLU has developed this fun way to ensure that schoolchildren of all ages know their rights. Topics include the First Amendment and Freedom of Expression. It’s fun and important! Click here to go to their site for the animated clips, PDFs, and text.
Get Ready for Election Day

Speaking of the ACLU, they have a page covering three topics related to the upcoming election: “Get the Conversation Guide,” “Know Your Rights at the Polls,” and “Make a Plan to Vote.”
The Trump administration is doing everything it can to sabotage the election this November because they know they will lose very bigly. So please visit this site and read these guides!
Also, check out “Happening Today” below for details on the “Hands Off Our Vote” virtual training tonight! And check out the Indivisible “Hands Off Our Vote” tool kit here (this will open a PDF) .
Also, here is some deep reading about the real threats from the administration. Start by at least skimming the “Act Free” blueprint for pushing back and the accompanying article in the Minnesota Reformer. Share them widely. Time is short. (Thank you, Elliot, for these last pieces!)
People Powered Maine

People Powered Maine is looking to rebuild and expand the grassroots movement started by the Graham Platner campaign. You may have heard about us before as the Maine People Powered Movement, but we have rebranded. If you are looking to rejoin the movement, or interested in becoming a volunteer leader we need you! We are having a volunteer leadership kick-off this week. You can learn more at www.peoplepoweredmaine.com. Feel free to email mainepeoplepoweredmovement@gmail.com if you are interested in stepping up – please include contact information and indicate you are in Penobscot county.
Verify Your Registration and
Request your Absentee Ballot Now!
Vote411 has a handy site where anyone can click their state on a map and go to a site to verify their registration. For states without a verification tool, you will be connected to a directory of election offices in your state. The nationwide site is here. Maine does not allow verification online, so the site directs to the Maine.gov site. It is worth contacting your local town office if you are unsure of your voting status. It’s best to be sure now and make a plan!
Request your Absentee Ballot
“Maine voters can request absentee ballots for Nov. 3 election starting today; ballots will be mailed beginning 30 days before the election.” Go here for the form to request and go here for more information. Tell your friends!

Please Consider
Sign Up to be a Nonpartisan Election Observer
The League of Women Voters of Maine deploys nonpartisan election observer volunteers to polling locations to check on the conditions, help resolve any issues, talk to poll workers, and offer our gratitude. We appreciate our election heroes and all the work that goes into running a smooth election cycle. Sign up here for training!
In fact, the LWVME has a lot of events and trainings planned for the upcoming election. Click here for that program in PDF format.
Donation Matching During August!
If you’ve been waiting to donate, now is the time to do it! From August 1st to August 31st, Indivisible National will match donations up to a maximum of $500 for our group! Running the website and organizing events take money, so whatever amount you can donate, we will appreciate! And with the midterms coming up, we need it more than ever! Thank you!
Take Action
❗We are disappointed in Jared Golden for being one of 22 House Democrats who voted against the Lebanon War Powers Resolution bill. His vote fuels the escalation of the massive killings in Lebanon by Israel, and detracts from the potential final ending of Trump’s war with Iran. We urge Representative Golden to reconsider and vote for the Lebanon War Powers Resolution bill the next time that the vote comes up. Please consider signing this petition.
❗Stay tuned for tips and ideas for writing letters to the editor of local newspapers like The Bangor Daily News, The Portland Press Herald, and The Ellsworth American. A good number of older Mainers (like me!) read the printed newspaper and they read the LTEs!
❗Sign up to volunteer with the Maine Democratic Party here.
❗Tell Congress to pass 100% Tax on payouts from Trump’s $1.8 Billion MAGA slush fund here.
❗Tell Congress to say no to payouts for insurrectionists here.
❗Tell Congress to protect the right to abortion, including medication abortion, and guarantee meaningful access to abortion for everyone, regardless of who they are or where they live, here.
❗Connect in person and virtually with these upcoming events from Indivisible, here.
❗Head over to take action on our site, or visit 5calls.org to demand Congress take action NOW!
❗Learn how to have a successful district office visit with the resources provided by Indivisible! Check it out here.
