Hello, and thank you for reading the Indivisible Bangor newsletter.
Labor Day – Monday, September 7th, 2026
Save that date! Food and Medicine and the Eastern Maine Labor Council, along with Indivisible Bangor, will be holding the annual Labor Day event. Stay tuned for more details!
Susan Collins Hobnobs with Right-Wing Extremists, MAGA Mega-Donors
As reported in Meidas Touch News (August 10, 2026), “OUR” senator, Susan Collins, who works tirelessly at portraying herself as a moderate who appeals to both Republicans and Democrats here in Maine, was at a fundraiser held in her honor in July. The special guest at this fundraiser that was hosted by 35 MAGA mega-donors was Sen. Tom Cotton, who “might be the most right-wing member of the U.S. Senate. He has made multiple extremist statements, including defending slavery and arguing that life begins at conception, which would legally classify abortion as murder.”
The list of co-hosts is a who’s who of the rich who want to keep Collins in her place so that she can be used by Trump to keep us in our place. And the most recent example of that is the wishy-washy way that she tepidly voted against the confirmation of Todd ‘I Love You, Sir” Blanche. It was clear to all in the world that she kept mum on her vote until confirmation was assured, after which she and Lisa Murkowski both “did the right thing” and voted against confirmation. Whatta couplea heroes.
~~~~~
Speaking of Collins, it was brought to my attention that we should still be contacting her office. I mentioned in a recent newsletter that it seemed useless to do so and I apologize for that. We need to let her know our opinion of her actions, as well as the actions of Trump, Hegseth, Blanche, the rest of them, and the inaction on the Epstein files. Call or email her early and often! It DOES matter!
Verify Your Registration and
Request your Absentee Ballot Now!
Vote411 has a handy site where anyone can click their state on a map and go to a site to verify their registration. For states without a verification tool, you will be connected to a directory of election offices in your state. The nationwide site is here. Maine does not allow verification online, so the site directs to the Maine.gov site. It is worth contacting your local town office if you are unsure of your voting status. It’s best to be sure now and make a plan!
“Maine voters can request absentee ballots for Nov. 3 election starting today; ballots will be mailed beginning 30 days before the election.” Go here for the form and go here for more information. Tell your friends!
Calling all Indivisibles who are ready to demand Hands Off Our Vote! Please Consider
Sign Up to be a Nonpartisan Election Observer
The League of Women Voters of Maine deploys nonpartisan election observer volunteers to polling locations to check on the conditions, help resolve any issues, talk to poll workers, and offer our gratitude. We appreciate our election heroes and all the work that goes into running a smooth election cycle. Sign up here for training!
In fact, the LWVME has a lot of events and trainings planned for the upcoming election. Click here for that program in PDF format.
Donation Matching During August!
If you’ve been waiting to donate, now is the time to do it! From August 1st to August 31st, Indivisible National will match donations up to a maximum of $500 for our group! Running the website and organizing events take money, so whatever amount you can donate, we will appreciate! And with the midterms coming up, we need it more than ever! Thank you!
Take Action
❗We are disappointed in Jared Golden for being one of 22 House Democrats who voted against the Lebanon War Powers Resolution bill. His vote fuels the escalation of the massive killings in Lebanon by Israel, and detracts from the potential final ending of Trump’s war with Iran. We urge Representative Golden to reconsider and vote for the Lebanon War Powers Resolution bill the next time that the vote comes up. Please consider signing this petition.
❗Stay tuned for tips and ideas for writing letters to the editor of local newspapers like The Bangor Daily News, The Portland Press Herald, and The Ellsworth American. A good number of older Mainers (like me!) read the printed newspaper and they read the LTEs!
❗Sign up to volunteer with the Maine Democratic Party here.
❗Tell Congress to pass 100% Tax on payouts from Trump’s $1.8 Billion MAGA slush fund here.
❗Tell Congress to say no to payouts for insurrectionists here.
❗Tell Congress to protect the right to abortion, including medication abortion, and guarantee meaningful access to abortion for everyone, regardless of who they are or where they live, here.
❗Connect in person and virtually with these upcoming events from Indivisible, here.
❗Head over to take action on our site, or visit 5calls.org to demand Congress take action NOW!
