All eyes are on progressive Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed, (who is also an epidemiologist!) El-Sayed surges in the polls despite AIPAC’s big spending on his Democratic establishment opponent.

Todd ‘I Love You, Sir” Blanche Advances
Acting Attorney General and the guy who has the cultish mancrush on Trump, Todd Blanche, has cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee. His nomination will go to a floor vote now that the Republican senators who had withheld their support have been assured that the DoJ(t) would rescind the $1.8 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund.” The object of said mancrush has stated that he still wants a payout fund for his private army of anti-government rioters and insurrectionist. This same person also benefits from a “tax-immunity deal that could help Trump skip taxes on the $2.3 billion he made last year.”
It is worth noting that the pieces are in place now for Collins and Murkowski to play their voting games. My bet is on Susan to vote against the nomination and look like the hero again in time for the midterms while Lisa votes for him. With Moscow Mitch MIA, MAGA can only afford to lose two votes, however.

Speaking of voting, while going through newspapers from this past winter, I found an article about a registered Republican in Hermon who voted twice ( a felony) in the 2024 election–once with his ballot and once with the ballot of his deceased uncle. Imagine that!

As many of you know, I am a big advocate of writing Letters to The Editors of local newspapers. It’s a great way to not only express your opinion, but to inform others. Many Indivisible Bangor members, like Mary Ann, write letters to the Bangor Daily News, Portland Press Herald, and other local papers.
The latest letter from a member, Elliot, was published on July 30th, 2026, in the Bangor Daily News:
Letter: Jared Golden should support Lebanon war powers resolution
I am very disappointed in Rep. Jared Golden for being one of 22 U.S. House Democrats who voted against the recent Lebanon War Powers Resolution bill. I believe his vote fuels the escalation of the massive killings in Lebanon by Israel, and detracts from the potential final ending of President Donald Trump’s war with Iran.
I urge Golden to reconsider and vote for the Lebanon War Powers Resolution bill the next time that it comes up.
Furthermore, I am also very disappointed in Golden for being one of six House Democrats who voted for Trump’s massive defense spending bill, that further escalates the war in Iran, in many ways fuses our military forces with those of Israel, and attaches provisions of the SAVE America Act, which could have the effect of eliminating crucial Democratic votes in the midterms.

On Saturday, August 8th from 11 to 11:45 am, at West Market Square in Bangor.
The Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine will host a vigil to commemorate the devastating August 1945 nuclear bomb attacks by the United States on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan.
