    Call our Senators to oppose the nomination of Fox News Host, Jeanine Pirro, for US Attorney for DC. Like Emile Bove and Ed Martin, she is an 2020 election questioner, Trump loyalist, who is interested in weaponizing the DOJ.

    TODAY’S ACTION (s)

    • Call the Maine Delegation to request an individual meeting or take part in a Town Hall:  Congress is on recess during August.  This is a good time to meet with our representatives, or their staff to push for the issues we are most concerned about.  Gather 5-6 friends and make a date to talk to Collins, King, Golden, or Pingree.  More details at 5calls.org.
    • Oppose Fox News Host Jeanine Pirro for US Attorney for DC:  She is a Trump loyalist, election denier, interested in weaponizing the DOJ, and done everything one could imagine a Fox talk show host would do to downplay Trump’s sexism, racism, and you name it ism, more details on her at 5calls.org.
    • Join Maine Voices for Palestinian Rights: Palestinians deserve human rights they are being deprived of now. Make it clear that Mainers do not support this – go here for actions around Maine that protest the actions of the Israeli Government in Gaza.

    • If you know your Maine Representative or Senator is supportive of making ICE accountable in Maine,  ask them to join with Representative Cassie Julia to put in a bill to ensure proper identification of ICE agents acting in Maine. Lawmakers in California have introduced legislation requiring the identity and affiliation of ICE agents to be displayed while interacting with the public.

    Good morning everyone, last week in July. 

    The House has been sent home to avoid dealing with the Epstein Files, and the Senate is probably around for a week or more. Recess is a good time to visit our Delegation’s Offices and discuss the issues most important to you.

    Sign up to help oppose this fall’s voter suppression referendum in Maine go here to get involved in an effort sponsored by the Maine League of Women Voters, Maine Equal Justice, Maine ACLU, Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition, Maine AFL-CIO and many others.

    Call our Senators and ask them to oppose the nomination of Emil Bove, (Nosferatu 2) for the Federal Appeals Court (3d circuit). A vote should be coming up this week. Once there, Trump, can advance him to the Supreme Court. He is really bad news. Details and links below. Senator Susan Collins voted to advance Emil Bove’s nomination but stated she would oppose his confirmation on the final vote. She expressed concerns that Bove would not serve as an impartial jurist. King also voted to advance his nomination.

    TODAY’S ACTION (s)

    • Work with your resistance group to visit one of our Congress Member’s Offices During Summer Recess: Ask them to act on any number of issues, ask them to hold a town hall meeting, create a petition to present to them with signatures, you know what to do!
    • Call Senators King and Collins to oppose the nomination of Emile Bove to be a judge on the Federal Appeals court:  Bove was Trump’s lawyer in the hush money case, He ordered the firings of Jan. 6 prosecutors, threatened to purge the FBI and prosecute local and state officials who pushed back against Trump’s mass deportation agenda, and dropped the corruption charges against NYC mayor Eric Adams.     Good morning everyone, Susan Collins voted against the Rescission Bill  last night. However it passed with an AIDs related program spared.

    Today is “Good Trouble” Action day throughout Maine. Grab some water, a piece of blue clothing, a sign, and head to the streets near you. Solidarity and action will give us heart and  and build the resistance. The rally in Augusta is designed to encircle the State House. Join us. There are rallies all over the state see below.

What sights? I welcome in and get to know the feeling of unpleasant in the body.     Thursday, July 17th National Good Trouble Demonstration: 12 – 1:30, Augusta; We are going to encircle the State House on the streets around it. Sign up for this event at Mobilize. 

    On July 17, Indivisible Mid Maine, Capitol Area Indivisible, and other partners, in honor of John Lewis, will have a SILENT/Quiet sign rally on the sidewalks around the Maine State House building and property in Augusta. Participants will–to the extent possible based on how many people join us–line the perimeter, beginning on the State Street side and extending around the corner to 

    Sewall Street, and down Sewall as far as Capitol Street, left on Capitol, and then left  through the State House Parking Lot back to State Street. 

    Dress with some blue in your clothing.

    Hi Folks, 

    Good morning everyone, Susan Collins voted against moving the Rescission Bill forward last night. A short article on her statements is here . The GOP won the vote with a tiebreaker from Vance.

    Pressure works. If you didn’t manage to do this yesterday, call Collins TODAY, thank her for her no vote and ask her to continue opposing Trump’s request H.R. 4 to cut already awarded funds to PBS, clean technology, foreign aid, global health, international peace keeping. Ask her to submit amendments to restore funding for these initiatives, particularly the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and Global Health initiatives.  These are funds that have already been granted, which the GOP is trying to take away!!!

    • Contact Collins  to thank her for OPPOSING H.R. 4, the Rescission Package to cut funding that Congress has already awarded: Ask her to keep voting no on this bill and to bring 2 colleagues on board with her. This request will defund PBS, Foreign Aid, Global Health, International Peacekeeping, etc. For more details go to 5calls.org. The Senate has until midnight on Friday to bring the rescissions bill up for consideration or else it loses its privileged status under a 1974 budget law and would be subject to normal filibuster rules.

Nydia Velázquez (D-NY) has introduced the No Masks for ICE Act to bring “basic transparency and accountability to immigration enforcement” and combat the climate of fear, chaos, and confusion caused by anonymous perpetrators. The lack of coordinated warnings in the flooding disaster in Texas is directly connected to cuts made to the National Weather Service. This is a huge issue heading our way each time Climate Change enhanced storms hit.

    There is now a Federal Bill submitted by Rep. Nydia Velázquez demanding the Unmasking of ICE Agents. Incidents around the country of people impersonating ICE and Police Officers terrorizing immigrants have increased the need for clear and accountable ways to identify official personnel.     Oppose HR 875 – a bill to allow a previous or current arrest for Driving Under the Influence to result in deportation for immigrant populations.

    Finally here in the Mid Maine area our Somerset County Commissioners are considering opposing LD 1971 which keeps Maine Police from doing ICE’s work. Ask them not to oppose this bill.

    Good morning everyone, one win –A District Court in Maryland has granted a preliminary injunction and ordered that the Trump administration must restore AmeriCorps funding to the broad coalition that sued over illegal cuts to grants. The District Courts and others below the Supremes seem to be operating under the idea of Checks and Balances. this is good. (From the Maine League of Women Voters)

    Tuesday, July 15th: 12:00-1:00 (and every Tuesday)  Stand against Tesla/Musk and the Federal Budget Bill in Waterville    around the Tesla Charging Station Elm Plaza on Main Street, Waterville. 

    Wednesday, July 16th: (and every Wednesday) 12:00-1:00 Waterville, Maine. Corner of Main and Chaplin St. Grandmothers for Reproductive Rights, GRR! demonstrates every Wednesday across from Resolve, the local anti-abortion center. Please join us in assuring all Mainers have access to safe, legal, shame-free reproductive health care including abortions and contraceptive care.     Thursday, July 17th National Good Trouble Demonstration: 12 – 1:30, Augusta; We are going to encircle the State House on the streets around it. Sign up for this event at 

    Mobilize. On July 17, Indivisible Mid Maine, Capitol Area Indivisible, and other partners, will have a SILENT sign rally on the sidewalks around the Maine State House building and property in Augusta. Participants will–to the extent possible based on how many people join us–line the perimeter, beginning on the State Street side and extending south to the State House parking lot entrance at Union Street and north to Capitol St., around to Sewall Street, and down Sewall as far as we can go.

    Recognize bias, harassment, or targeting before it escalates — and build your confidence to step in safely as an effective ally.

    What happens when law enforcement — the very people sworn to protect us — break that trust by questioning or detaining someone for no clear reason? 

    What would you do if you saw someone being unfairly singled out in public, or a tense situation starting to spiral? 
    When do you step forward instead of stepping back?

    Join Indivisible Cumberland County online on Tuesday, July 15th at 6 PM for an immersive Active Bystander Intervention & De-escalation Training with Prevention. Action. Change. (PAC). This two-hour online session will help you recognize bias, harassment, or targeting before it escalates — and build your confidence to step in safely as an effective ally.

    Exercises will depend on group size but typically include small group interactions, role-play, and movement-based scenarios. You’ll learn and practice de-escalation techniques to assess risk, defuse tension with words and body language, and protect yourself if things become unsafe. The training also includes techniques for managing adrenaline and recovering after difficult encounters. Walk away with real-world skills you can use immediately to support others and help keep public spaces safe for everyone.

    Indivisible Cumberland County is hiring professionals to conduct the training and is requesting that participants donate $20 to take part. On the registration page you will be directed to ICC’s ActBlue page to make a donation.
