Good Friday Morning Folks,

As they say all politics is local.  If you are interested in creating a larger and larger resistance to the destruction of our democracy, think of 3 friends you could contact today and this weekend.  Chat with them about their level of discomfort with what’s going on, and ask them if they would be interested in getting more involved. For those who answer yes, let them know that you will invite them to events and actions you are involved in. Even if you only get one taker, you have just doubled your effort!

Linda suggests we all take action to let the Maine Turnpike Authority (877) 682-9433–dial 0 or stay on the line) that Mainers do not want a Chick-Fil-A vendor on the Maine Turnpike. This outfit is openly anti LGBQT+ and rooted in white, right wing, evangelical philosophy.

 From Yesterday:

Taking art and action to the Streets. Indivisible Cumberland County has created posters which can be put up on telephone poles – “Healthcare Shouldn’t Bankrupt Us” “Child Care Must be Affordable” “We Need Homes Not Palaces”. You can create your own – such as a favorite sign spotted recently: “Fight Truth Decay”, and “All Are Welcome Here”  If we can put lost cats and dogs on telephone polls we can also put up messages – everywhere.

Note:  I have been alerted that overtly political messages could be deemed illegal as the poles belong to CMP, so think carefully about the message before you plaster!

TODAY’S ACTION (s)

• Call three friends to see if they would like to get more involved in the resistance: We need to build this movement, and that can only happen through using our friend and family networks to get people more involved. Invite interested folks to join the actions you are already involved in!

Remember poles belong to CMP and overtly political statements may be subject to legal action, however they seem to be ok with lost cats and dogs.

• Call Governor Mills to ask her to publicly denounce the Gerrymandering in Texas:  Call her at 207-287-3531 or contact her by email through her website; ask her to publicly call out this radical and unethical, and norm-destroying process. More details at 5calls.org.
• Call our delegation and demand the release of the Epstein files: Check out Indivisible’s Epstein Toolkit to help you with your calls and rallying friends.  More details also at 5calls.org .
• Join the One Million Rising Effort: The final training will be on August 13th, but between now and then you can watch the first two. Go here to get connected.
• Call the Maine Delegation to request an individual meeting or take part in a Town Hall:  Congress is on recess during August.  This is a good time to meet with our representatives, or their staff to push for the issues we are most concerned about.  Gather 5-6 friends and make a date to talk to Collins, King, Golden, or Pingree.  More details at 5calls.org.
• Call our delegation to demand the end of the war in Gaza:  The progressive caucus in the house has put in a bill calling for the end of the US supplying specific offensive weapons to the Israeli army. Support this bill and for more general information on this effort go to 5calls.org. Indivisible has suggestions on this as well.
• Start planning on mass actions for this coming Labor Day: Groups around Maine and the nation are calling for Mass Action on Labor Day – Monday, September 1st. Set this date aside in your calendar and connect with an action going on near you.

Please join us in assuring all Mainers have access to safe, legal, shame-free reproductive health care including abortions and contraceptive care. Consult with your favorite artist to design something.  Let’s plaster our towns and neighborhoods with messages that make us think, and then act! One local community resistance group is going to work on putting “All Are Welcome Here” posters in businesses throughout Waterville. What can you do along the same lines?

Call our Congressional Delegation and demand the release of the Epstein files. Indivisible has an “Epstein Tool Kit” to help fan the flames of this “crisis” for our corrupt administration. (Details Below)

Consider joining Indivisible’s One Million Rising Effort by taking their trainings (3) about an hour each, and inviting a group of like-minded friends to discuss what can be done in this moment to build a mass movement.

Trump is pulling out all the stops and we need to match and exceed his momentum.

Pressure our Congressional Delegation to end the humanitarian crisis and war in Gaza. A joint resolution of disapproval to block the sale of offensive weapons to Israel has been introduced in the house.

As you all know, Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, supported by his legislature, is ramming through a re-districting of Texas so that Democrats lose 5 seats there. This potentially would enable Republicans to maintain control of the House and continue their wrecking-ball approach to governing and our welfare.

Call Governor Janet Mills and ask her to speak out against this action publicly as well as to pressure Texas Governor Abbott to cease and desist. To fight back, Governors in Blue states will do the same thing (as they should) and we will lose fairness and representation in our national elections all together.

Call our Congressional Delegation and demand the release of the Epstein files. Indivisible has an “Epstein Tool Kit” to help fan the flames of this “crisis” for our corrupt administration. (Details Below)

Consider joining Indivisible’s One Million Rising Effort by taking their trainings (3) about an hour each, and inviting a group of like-minded friends to discuss what can be done in this moment to build a mass movement.

Trump is pulling out all the stops and we need to match and exceed his momentum.

Pressure our Congressional Delegation to end the humanitarian crisis and war in Gaza. A joint resolution of disapproval to block the sale of offensive weapons to Israel has been introduced in the house. 

Consider watching “Solidarity and Response” at two part training on showing up for immigrant communities, go here to sign up.  First training tonight at 8 pm.

• Start planning on mass actions for this coming Labor Day: Groups around Maine and the nation are calling for Mass Action on Labor Day – Monday, September 1st. Set this date aside in your calendar and connect with an action going on near you.

This series will feature weekly sessions exploring various topics, skills, and speakers aimed at enhancing skills and nurturing leadership among young changemakers. Good morning everyone it’s Monday and the Senate is almost off for recess. They are working on hundreds of Trump nominations for positions in the military and the court system.

Call our delegation to meet with members individually or through a town hall set up by the organization(s) you are connected with. Let them know what issues you are concerned about. (Details Below)

Call our Congressional Delegation and demand the release of the Epstein files. We have a wide spectrum of folks pushing for this both on the right and the left.  It’s looking an awful lot like a cover-up. (Details Below)

Pressure our Congressional Delegation to end the humanitarian crisis and war in Gaza. A joint resolution of disapproval to block the sale of offensive weapons to Israel has been introduced in the house.

Fox News Host, Jeanine Pirro, for US Attorney for DC. was approved by the Senate last week, with Collins voting yes, and King voting no. Like Emile Bove and Ed Martin, she is a 2020 election questioner, Trump loyalist, who is interested in weaponizing the DOJ.

Get involved with Stand Ups for Palestinian rights! There are actions around the State tracked at Maine Voices for Palestinian Rights.

Call our Senators and thank them for voting against Emil Bove’s appointment to the Federal Appeals Court, as well as asking them to support continuing the ACA tax credits (details below) and passing laws that support clean energy (details below).

From earlier this week – support clean energy as below and also ask our delegation to vote to extend the ACA tax credits.

• Call our Congress people to support clean energy:  The Citizens’ Climate Lobby is 800 strong in DC lobbying for funding clean energy and passing reform legislation for energy projects. To learn more and call in through their website go here.Use these handouts for additional talking points if you like, or just use the link.  
• Protect the Affordable Care Act: Ask our Congressional Delegation to maintain the ACA’s tax credits. Tax credits that help support the ACA are slated to be ended at the end of this year. This will make the ACA premiums 75% more expensive and force 4 million people off insurance over the next 10 years. Go here for more information.
• Join Indivisible for their One Million Rising Trainings: Go here to register for this training that will be happening July 30th and August 13th. You can watch the first and second trainings here.
• Start making a list of friends who are like-minded but have not yet taken action: To get to 3.5% (11.6 million folks) of the US population we need everyone to get involved in the resistance. Good morning everyone, although Emile Bove was narrowly confirmed yesterday to the Federal Appeals Court, our Maine Senators King and Collins both voted AGAINST his nomination. This is a win for our efforts here in Maine. We don’t control what happens elsewhere.

I am not a big believer in petitions, but here is one worth signing. Over 250,000 people have signed the petition to Save Colbert. Tomorrow, Leaders We Deserve is delivering it directly to CBS headquarters in New York. To sign the petition go here.

• Sign the petition to CBS to save Colbert:  Petitions are one arrow in the quiver. Let CBS know how we feel about them scrapping a vocal critic of the administration who is also funny. Call our Senators and ask them to oppose the nomination of Emil Bove, (Nosferatu 2) for the Federal Appeals Court (3d circuit). A vote should be coming up this week. A new CNN report adds a new whistleblower opposing Bove’s nomination. See new information on Bove below.

• Call Senators King and Collins to oppose the nomination of Emile Bove to be a judge on the Federal Appeals court:   900 former DOJ lawyers wrote a letter opposing his confirmation, Bove signaled support of Trump running for a 3rd term, and questions arose about Bove’s involvement in the DOJ review of the Epstein case. Go to 5calls.org to get more talking points on this.
