    Upcoming Events:

    NEXT NO KINGS PROTEST
    MARCH 28, 2026

    In 2025, millions of Americans came together in nonviolent protest to oppose the growing authoritarian actions of the Trump administration and affirm that this nation belongs to its people, not to kings. Since then, people have continued to rise up nonviolently against the Trump administration’s ongoing brutality and abuses of power, including the latest escalation in Minnesota. The No Kings Coalition is activating an immediate and ongoing nationwide digital organizing effort leading up to our next mass mobilization on March 28, including a flagship event in the Twin Cities.

    Indivisible Bangor is actively working on these plans, so stay tuned!

    Other News:

    A new PAC called American Sovereignty has produced two propaganda commercials that distort, mislead, and lie about ICE and what they are doing. One of these commercials has been seen on MS Now (formerly MSNBC). The Daily Kos has an article about it here: “Shady new ad campaign paints ICE thugs as ‘friends and neighbors’ (2/2/26).” The article states that they are running in states with “crucial Senate elections this year,” and Maine is certainly one of those states.

    These commercials, along with the “win” that has been assigned to Senator Collins for getting the ICE “surge” to end in Maine, are all part of the effort to get her re-elected this November. We won’t let that happen. Write letters to the editors of your newspapers (go here for more info), keep reminding your friends what Senator Collins has done to hurt her fellow Mainers, volunteer or donate (or both!) to a campaign for her Democratic opposition.

    If anyone is fooled by these commercials, they need only read about the recent Capitol Hill forum sponsored by Rep. Robert Garcia (D-California) and other Democrats, which was not attended by any Republicans. Marimar Martinez and Aliya Rahman, both Americans who were brutalized by ICE agents, with Ms. Martinez actually being shot five times, testified, along with Luke and Brent Ganger, the brothers of Renée Good.

    Renée Good’s brothers, others describe assaults, shootings at hearing (2/3/26) Gift article from the Washington Post.

    See some of the testimony from MS NOW on YouTube here. It is shocking and horrific.

    BLACK HISTORY MONTH

    In celebration of Black History Month, we will be sharing local Black History and Black Community resources throughout the month.

    The origins of Black History Month date back nearly a century to historian Carter G. Woodson, who sought to bring national attention to the role African Americans have played in shaping the United States. These efforts gained momentum on college campuses in the mid-20th century, and in 1976 the observance received formal federal recognition, underscoring the importance of honoring contributions that had long been underrepresented in historical narratives.

    Maine’s history reflects the presence, resilience, and impact of African American communities. From early participation in maritime industries to landmarks such as the Abyssinian Meeting House, the state’s first Black church, these stories are woven into Maine’s past. Exploring this history provides valuable context for understanding both the state’s development and the diverse experiences that continue to shape it.

    From Recognizing Black History Month, University of Maine at Augusta.

    Emanuel’s Daily Call to Action:

    Action Wednesday February 11th: Call Your Congress People to Support Virginia’s Law + to Vote NO on the SAVE Act Coming up for Vote Today in the House

    Good Morning Folks, it’s a Wednesday and we have a major win, but first according to Jamie Raskin, Trump’s name shows up 1 million times in the Epstein files (and, might I add, not one Somali name). The win is that Trump’s effort to Indict 6 Congresspeople on seditious conspiracy charges for making a video encouraging military personnel not to follow illegal orders was thrown out by the Grand Jury hearing the case.

    Top Action to Take Today:

    Ask your Congressional Representatives to co-sponsor and support “Virginia’s Law”, a billthat would  remove the statute of limitations for civil lawsuits related to sexual abuse and trafficking. This law, named after Virginia Guiffre an Epstein abuse survivor and outspoken advocate for justice,  would empower survivors by giving them a legal means to seek justice with not expiration date. Given the horrendous treatment survivors have gotten through the unreacted release of their names in the current Epstein Files release, this is a small step Congress can take to redress the harm done. More details on this in the Guardian.

    More Actions Today if You Have the Bandwidth

    More Actions Today if You Have the BandwidthContact your House and Senate Representatives to vote NO on the SAVE act HR 7296 – coming up tomorrow in the House, and vote No on the MEGA Act, HR 7300 both of which are voter suppression efforts. The new SAVE Act adds new requirements that voters present a proof of citizenship both when registering to vote and when casting a ballot – 5calls.org has more on this.  “Make Elections Great Again” (MEGA) would ban mail in ballots, limit absentee voting Go to 5calls.org for more information and a script for this call/contact.
    Contact Congressional Representatives to have ALL of the Epstein Files Released and Support S. 2746, the Produce Epstein Treasury Records Act: Congressman Rho Khanna has demanded that Epstein’s associates named in these files be investigated by Congress, even though Todd Blanche, Deputy Attorney General + former personal Trump lawyer, has said that the case is over, and “it isn’t a crime to party with Mr. Epstein.” In this most recent release, the DOJ did not redact the name of many survivors and allowed nude pictures of them to be included.  This is beyond disgusting. More on this at Democracy Now For a script and more information go to 5calls.org.
    Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), the Ranking Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee (that oversees US banking) has been demanding access to Epstein’s finances. To this end, he introduced S. 2746 (the Produce Epstein Treasury Records Act), which would require the Secretary of the Treasury to produce suspicious activity reports relating to Jeffrey Epstein and his associates. Republicans are currently blocking this bill. Call Senators King and Collins to urge them to cosponsor S. 2746.ICE related Actions
    Contact our Congressional Representatives to: Claw back the 175 BILLION dollar slush fund that was approved in the “OBBA”(The Budget Bill Passed this Summer), for Immigration enforcement actions over the next four years. Collins + King both voted in favor of the Sanders Amendment which clawed back 75 Billion from ICE and CBP. Thank them for this, and then ask them to clawback this funding, and defund ICE and CBP until they meet standards of conduct for police professionals. For more information and a script go to 5calls.org for defunding ICE, and here for the 175 Billion Dollar Clawback. They will be voting next week on this – February 13th.
    On Jan. 29, at 1 pm the Maine legislature’s Judiciary Committee held a public hearing on an emergency bill, LD 2106 “An Act to Prohibit the Disclosure of Nonpublic Records Without Proper Judicial Review” to make sure ICE can’t enter private spaces in hospitals, schools, and childcare centers (learn more here ).  MPA has an ACTION TOOLKIT on this bill here.  You can still submit testimony on this bill here.
    There is a move afoot to tax corporations who wish to build ICE prison camps in Maine at a higher level than regular corporate tax to offset the demands on local resources. Along with simply disallowing these camps through local zoning action and public outcry, cutting into the profit margin of these businesses is another way to dissuade them from trying to settle in Maine. ICE has 45 billion dollars to build/rent/purchase prison camp facilities – see a full report on this here from the Brennan Center.

    Maine’s Attorney General Aaron Frey has started an ICE tip-line Citizens are urged to report intimidating and excessive federal enforcement behavior to CitizenReporting.OAG@maine.gov. “

You can also text them a photo of what you believe to be an ICE vehicle, or any ICE actions in your area.
    Call or write King, Collins, Golden or Pingree and demand a full investigation of ICE killings, refuse to pass extra appropriations for the Department of Homeland Security which funds ICE, and call for the Impeachment of Kristi (Cowboy Hat) Noem.  For more information and a script for your call go to 5calls.org.

    There are now 140 co-sponsors of a bill to impeach Krist Noem, Head of the Department of Homeland Security.

    Action Monday February 9th: Contact Golden and Pingree to Vote NO on the SAVE Act + Consider Joining the Anti-War Protest Today at Bath Iron Works

    Good Morning Folks, greetings to our second Monday in February. As usual lots going on – perhaps most immediately an anti-war, anti-Hegseth protest in Bath today from 12:30 to 3:30 at the Bath Post Office, 750 Washington Street. See poster below.

    Top Action to Take Today

    Contact your House and Senate Representatives to vote NO on the SAVE act – coming up this week in the House is the SAVE act which is basically a voter suppression effort by Trump and Republicans. According to 5calls.org “

    This bill maintains the language of the original SAVE Act and adds new requirements that voters present a proof of citizenship both when registering to vote and when casting a ballot, drastically increasing the difficulty for eligible voters. The bill still faces significant opposition in the Senate.

    More Actions Today if You Have the Bandwidth    Contact Congressional Representatives to have ALL of the Epstein Files Released and Support S. More on this at Democracy Now  See the attached email below from them as well. For a script and more information go to 5calls.org.
2746.If you have done the above, let’s make contact with our Congressional Representatives to ask them to oppose the “Make Elections Great Again” (MEGA) This act would require voter ID, ban mail in ballots, and use the Republican lies about widespread fraud in elections to allow the Federal Government to supersede state’s rights in voting procedures. Go to 5calls.org for more information and a script for this call/contact.
    As Abbie McMillen points out in her Action 207, “Keep Maine Blue”, post (attached) there is a special election in Lewiston coming up February 24. Democrat Scott Harriman is running for the House.  His campaign needs donations, time, and energy to beat a challenging MAGA-aligned candidate. Find out more about Scott here and here (Maine Beacon Article).  You can help by making a donation, joining a canvassing effort on a Saturday morning: 2/7, 2/14 or 2/21, and joining a phone bank on a Monday evening  2/23. The balance of power in Maine is very close in the House – Dems 74, Republicans 72, Independents 3.

    ICE related ActionsContact our Congressional Representatives to: Claw back the 175 BILLION dollar slush fund that was approved in the “OBBA”(The Budget Bill Passed this Summer), for Immigration enforcement actions over the next four years.

    Emanuel’s Daily Action Email, Friday, 2/6/26 – Full Text

    Action Friday February 6th: Demand the Release of All the Epstein Files and Investigate People Named in Files + Decry Outing of Survivors

    Good Morning Folks, first week in February over and so many things to react to. It’s like being presented with a cornucopia of bad fruit; you will get indigestion trying to respond to all of them. It’s one of our burdens in this news-rich environment that we can take in way more information than we can respond to. My effort is to pick one thing a day to do and match it with something that builds community, creativity or my sense of being alive.

    Top Action to Take Today

    Contact Congressional Representatives to have ALL of the Epstein Files Released: Congressman Rho Khanna has demanded that Epstein’s associates named in these files be investigated by Congress, even though Todd Blanche, Deputy Attorney General + former personal Trump lawyer, has said that the case is over, and “it isn’t a crime to party with Mr. Epstein.” In this most recent release, the DOJ did not redact the name of many survivors and allowed nude pictures of them to be included.  This is beyond disgusting. More on this at Democracy Now  See the attached email below from them as well. For a script and more information go to 5calls.org.

    More Actions Today if You Have the BandwidthCall/write Senators King and Collins to support extending the ACA tax credits as the House did on January 8th.  The House’s version is a “clean” extension with no amendments.  The Maine People’s Alliance makes this really easy, go here. If you wish to write your own note or call, our Senator’s  contact information is below in the Contact Information part of this email. For more information go to 5calls.orgFor a full toolkit on how to support this action  go here
    If you have done the above, let’s make contact with our Congressional Representatives to ask them to oppose the “Make Elections Great Again” (MEGA) This act would require voter ID, ban mail in ballots, and use the Republican lies about widespread fraud in elections to allow the Federal Government to supersede state’s rights in voting procedures.
You can help by making a donation, joining a canvassing effort on a Saturday morning: 2/7, 2/14 or 2/21, and joining a phone bank on a Monday evening 2/9, 2/1, or 2/23.

    Maine’s Attorney General Aaron Frey has started an ICE tip-line Citizens are urged to report intimidating and excessive federal enforcement behavior to CitizenReporting.OAG@maine.gov. “

    Emailers should be advised that any content sent may be subject to public dissemination under Maine’s Freedom of Access Laws.”

    Bruce Springsteen just released the Streets of Minneapolis – exactly what we need to keep our momentum building!

    The Maine Immigrant’s  Rights Coalition has set up a resource hub on responding to ICE.  If you see what you identify as an ICE vehicle in your town call the ICE Watch hotline in Maine:207 544 9989.

    Activate Maine has an ICE toolkit including links to sign up for ICE verifier and de escalation trainings.If you want to get more involved check out

    ACA Related Actions

    Call Collins and King and ask them to support the ACA tax extension bill coming from the House with no amendments. This bill has stalled in the Senate because Republicans want to add an abortion amendment.  For more information on the ACA go hereFor a full toolkit on how to support action on this go here. This bill passed in the house!!Boycott: Being a consumer is one of the greatest powers we have as members of a capitalist economy.   For a complete list of ICE related boycotts go to https://www.resistandunsubscribe.com/ a new website that lists and explains all the corporations that are directly enabling the Trump administration’s nasty policies and/or helping ICE and CBP: (Thanks Shelly for this link)  Another resource on Boycotting – Scott Galloway’s podcast – Raging Moderates, discusses boycotting TechBro products at about 14:30 into the podcast, go here. Bangor councilors kill proposal to eliminate equity and inclusion committee

    From the Bangor Daily News:
    Bangor city councilors voted not to move forward with a proposal to eliminate the Advisory Committee on Racial Equity, Inclusion, and Human Rights in a Government Operations Committee meeting Monday night.

    The decision follows what councilors described as a flood of emails this weekend from community members who opposed the committee’s elimination. City Councilor Susan Faloon estimated she received between 75 and 100 emails since the agenda was released Friday from community members urging councilors not to disband the committee.

    Atlantic Black Box, based in Portland, Maine, empowers communities throughout the Northeast to take up the critical work of researching and reckoning with our region’s role in colonization, the slave trade, and the global economy of enslavement. This grassroots historical recovery movement is powered by community historians and guided by a broad coalition of scholars, community leaders, educators, archivists, museum professionals, antiracism activists, and artists.

    Write a letter to the editor!

    Letters to the editor are published regularly in the local newspapers from Mainers who support the brutal tactics of the authoritarian Trump regime. Write a letter to set the record straight. Click the button to go to the Bangor Daily News “Submit a letter or column” page, the Portland Press Herald “Letters to the editor” page, and the “Letter to the Editor” page at the Ellsworth American.

    Emanuel’s Daily Call to Action:

    Action Thursday February 5th: For the Heart Thursday + Help Scott Harriman Get Elected in Lewiston Special Election

    Good Morning Folks, it’s a For the Heart Thursday. I am always torn about whether this day should have any recommended action at all.  For now I will suggest one – but the idea is that it is a middle-of-the-week pause to be compassionate with yourself! Make sure to do something that sustains you today.

    Top Action to Take Today:

    As Hancock County points out in Action 207, “Keep Maine Blue”, post (attached) there is a special election in Lewiston coming up February 24. Democrat Scott Harriman is running for the House.  His campaign needs donations, time, and energy to beat a challenging MAGA-aligned candidate. Find out more about Scott hereand here (Maine Beacon Article).  You can help by making a donation, joining a canvassing effort on a Saturday morning: 2/7, 2/14 or 2/21, and joining a phone bank on a Monday evening 2/9, 2/1, or 2/23. The balance of power in Maine is very close in the House – Dems 74, Republicans 72, Independents 3.

    For “More Actions Today if You Have the Bandwidth” and “From the Heart” from Emanuel’s Daily Call to Action (2/5), click here.

    For the full text of the last two Daily Actions, click here: Tuesday 2/3 and Wednesday 2/4.

    With great appreciation for all the engagement everywhere!

    As always, throw a little sand in their gears!

    For Your Heart this seventh week of Winter:

    Things not going our way is a given. What we do when life doesn’t go our way is what is important.

    ~~~Nancy Hathaway  Center for Studying Mindfulness
    A Note Life is the only wayTo get covered in leaves,Catch your breath on the sand,Rise on wings;to be a dog,or stroke its warm fur;to tell painfrom everything it’s not;to squeeze inside events,dawdle in views,to seek the least of all possible mistakes.An extraordinary chanceTo remember for a momentA conversation heldWith the lamp switched off;And if only onceTo stumble on a stone,End up drenched in one downpour or another,Mislay your keys in the grass;And to follow a spark on the wind with your eyes;And to keep on not knowingSomething important.
    More Actions Today if You Have the BandwidthCall/write Senators King and Collins to support extending the ACA tax credits as the House did on January 8th.  The House’s version is a “clean” extension with no amendments.  The Maine People’s Alliance makes this really easy, go here. If you wish to write your own note or call, our Senator’s  contact information is below in the Contact Information part of this email. For more information go to 5calls.orgFor a full toolkit on how to support this action  go here
    If you have done the above, let’s make contact with our Congressional Representatives to ask them to oppose the “Make Elections Great Again” (MEGA) This act would require voter ID, ban mail in ballots, and use the Republican lies about widespread fraud in elections to allow the Federal Government to supersede state’s rights in voting procedures. Go to 5calls.org for more information and a script for this call/contact. (“Proving Voter Fraud” is what the Federal raid on Fulton County Ballots with Tulsi Gabard?? in the lead,  from 2020 is all about.)
    ICE related Actions Contact our Congressional Representatives to: Claw back the 175 BILLION dollar slush fund that was approved in the “OBBA”(The Budget Bill Passed this Summer), for Immigration enforcement actions over the next four years. Collins + King both voted in favor of the Sanders Amendment which clawed back 75 Billion from ICE and CBP. Thank them for this, and then ask them to clawback this funding, and defund ICE and CBP until they meet standards of conduct for police professionals, including but not limited to: no masks, body cams, identification badges, and an end to the detention and deportation of citizens who are lawfully present immigrants. For more information and a script go to 5calls.org for defunding ICE, and here for the 175 Billion Dollar Clawback. They will be voting next week on this – February 13th.
    Action Wednesday February 4th: Contact Our Congresspeople to Defund ICE/CBP + Clawback 175 Billion Dollars From DHS Ongoing Funding
    Good Morning Folks, it’s the middle of our first week in February, and the House passed a funding package that includes only 2 weeks of funding for the Department of Homeland Security.     Action Tuesday February 3d: Contact King + Collins to Support a Clean Extension of the ACA Tax Credits
    Good Morning Folks, it’s our first Tuesday in February and the beginning of Black History Month. It is also almost a year since Waterville started protesting at the Tesla Charging Station at Elm Plaza, we’re a little more than a quarter of the way through this marathon, but the marathon for de-institutionalizing racism in our country has a much longer arc.
    Top Action to Take Today:
    Call/write Senators King and Collins to support extending the ACA tax credits as the House did on January 8th.  The House’s version is a “clean” extension with no amendments.  The Maine People’s Alliance makes this really easy, go here. If you wish to write your own note or call, our Senator’s  contact information is below in the Contact Information part of this email. For more information go to 5calls.orgFor a full toolkit on how to support this action  go here
    More Actions Today if You Have the BandwidthThis week the House will be voting on H.R. 7148 , the funding package without DHS included.Contact Representatives Pingree and Golden to ask them to approve this package with funding for DHS to be acted on separately.If you have done the above, let’s take contact our Congressional Representatives to ask them to oppose the “Make Elections Great Again” (MEGA) This act would require voter ID, ban mail in ballots, and use the Republican lies about widespread fraud in elections to allow the Federal Government to supersede state’s rights in voting procedures. Go to 5calls.org for more information and a script for this call/contact. (“Proving Voter Fraud” is what the Federal raid on Fulton County Ballots with Tulsi Gabard?? in the lead,  from 2020 is all about.)
    ICE related ActionsOn Jan. 29, at 1 pm the Maine legislature’s Judiciary Committee held a public hearing on an emergency bill, LD 2106 “An Act to Prohibit the Disclosure of Nonpublic Records Without Proper Judicial Review” to make sure ICE can’t enter private spaces in hospitals, schools, and childcare centers (learn more here ).  MPA has an ACTION TOOLKIT on this bill here.  You can still submit testimony on this bill here.
