One Million Rising: Strategic Non-Cooperation to Fight Authoritarianism – Part 2 on July 30!

Across the country, authoritarian forces are getting bolder and more dangerous. Trump and his allies are not hiding their agenda: mass deportations, rollbacks of civil rights, weaponized courts, and full-scale attacks on our democracy. We don’t have to wait until it’s too late. We can stop this. But it’ll take all of us—not just on single days of mass action, but through sustained organizing in our communities.

That’s why this summer, we’re launching One Million Rising—a national effort to train one million people in the strategic logic and practice of non-cooperation, as well as the basics of community organizing and campaign design. This is how we build people power that can’t be ignored. You’re invited to join us—and lead.

Let’s build a force bigger than fear and louder than hate. Let’s get ready. Let’s get organized. Let’s stop Trump.

  • Good Trouble Lives On: Thursday, 7/17

Good Trouble Lives On: Thursday, 7/17

Good Trouble Lives On is a national day of action to respond to the attacks on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration. Together, we’ll remind them that in America, the power lies with the people.

Coined by civil rights leader Congressman John Lewis, “Good Trouble” is the action of coming together to take peaceful, non-violent action to challenge injustice and create meaningful change.

The civil rights leaders of the past have shown us the power of collective action. That’s why on July 17, five years since the passing of Congressman John Lewis, communities across the country will take to the streets, courthouses, and community spaces to carry forward his fight for justice, voting rights, and dignity for all.

    Time

    Thursday, July 17

A core principle behind all Good Trouble Lives On events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.

  • Indivisible’s Weekly To Do List – July 14th

Indivisible’s Weekly To Do List – July 14th

    1. Prepare to march this Thursday at a Good Trouble Lives On Day of Action near youEach day brings new attacks on our rights as the Trump regime chips away at our democracy. But in the tradition of the late John Lewis, Americans across the country will rise up this Thursday in a mass, nonviolent demonstration for freedom and justice.
    2. Learn the tools of strategic non-cooperation to fight authoritarianism at our One Million Rising training series beginning this Wednesday. There’s no escaping it; Trump and his enablers are becoming bolder and our slide toward authoritarianism is accelerating. With institutions failing to meet the challenge, it falls to us — the pro-democracy majority — to defeat fascism. Join this training to help lead the fight within your networks and pass on these skills to others.
    3. Contact state and local Dems to demand action against masked ICE abductions. If you live in a blue city or state with a Democratic trifecta, your Democratic governor, mayor, and lawmakers have the power to stop secret police tactics like abductions by masked ICE agents. Our Blue State Defiance toolkit helps identify who to contact and what to call for.
    4. Join our “Fight Back with Friends” training on Tuesday, July 22 for new tools to help get your friends and family off the sidelines! We all know someone who wants to join our fight but isn’t sure where to start; Fight Back with Friends is a new program designed to break down that barrier. Each call details ways to get your friends involved in specific, impactful tactics to defend our rights, our safety, and our democracy. Tuesday’s will focus on our upcoming One Million Rising campaign (more info below).
    5. Join our “What’s the Plan?” call on Thursday as Indivisible’s cofounders break down the latest news and take questions from the movement. Every Thursday at 3pm ET (12pm PT), Leah Greenberg and Ezra Levin go live to take questions from Indivisible activists. This week they’ll be joined by a special guest — Professor Erica Chenoweth (the scholar behind the 3.5% rule) — to dig into the strategic logic of our One Million Rising campaign (more info below).
    6. Check out Truth Brigade tools for pushing back on the regime’s efforts to silence dissentAmericans care deeply about free speech, so enemies of the First Amendment have to justify their attacks on constitutionally-protected speech with lies and fearmongering. This month, our disinformation-fighting Truth Brigade team has some expertly-crafted messaging you can share to help expose these authoritarian tactics.

Ask her to submit amendments to restore funding for these initiatives, particularly the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and Global Health initiatives.  These are funds that have already been granted, which the GOP is trying to take away!!!

After the passage of President Trump’s domestic policy law, the Department of Homeland Security is poised to hire thousands of new immigration agents and double detention space.

Thousands of new deportation agents deployed into American cities. A doubling of detention space to hold tens of thousands of immigrants before they are expelled. Miles of new border wall, along with surveillance towers equipped with artificial intelligence.

That is the expansive plan that President Trump’s top immigration officials now intend to enact after months of struggling to overcome staffing shortages and logistical hurdles that have stymied his pledge to record the most deportations in American history.

After weeks of pressuring members of Congress into supporting his signature domestic policy legislation, Mr. Trump has secured an extraordinary injection of funding for his immigration agenda — $170 billion, the vast majority of which will go to the Department of Homeland Security over four years.

The annual budget of Immigration and Customs Enforcement alone will spike from about $8 billion to roughly $28 billion, making it the highest funded law enforcement agency in the federal government.

We have come a long way in America because of Martin Luther King, Jr.  He led a disciplined, nonviolent revolution under the rule of law, a revolution of values, a revolution of ideas.  We’ve come a long way, but we still have a distance to go before all of our citizens embrace the idea of a truly interracial democracy, what I like to call the Beloved Community, a nation at peace with itself.  John Lewis

  • Action 151 Stop the Recission

    Action 151 Stop the Recission

From our friends at Hancock County Democrats:

Background:  Rescissions are a special budgetary procedure, initiated by a request from the White House’s Office of Management and Budget, that essentially cancels funds previously approved by Congress. This rescissions package requested by the Trump administration aims to codify DOGE’s cuts to public broadcasting, global health programs, and foreign aid funds totaling $9.4 billion. These cuts include:

●$1.1 billion in funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting which disburses funds to NPR and PBS, two media organizations commonly targeted by Trump for being “radical, woke propaganda.”

●$1.25 billion in funding to the Clean Technology Fund, which supports the development of low-carbon technologies in middle-income and developing countries.

●$900 million in funding to global health programs like the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), which has been credited for saving millions of lives around the world.

●$200 million in contributions to international organizations like USAID. According to a UCLA analysis, USAID cuts may lead to more than 14 million deaths globally, including 4.5 million children under 5 by 2030.

●Billions more in U.S. foreign aid for international disasters, migration and refugee assistance, democracy, international peacekeeping, and economic development programs. These critical, life-saving programs for millions around the globe must be preserved.

Action: The Trump administration’s rescission package, H.R. 4, has passed in the House and now awaits a vote in the Senate where it will only need 50 votes to pass. Susan Collins is on the fence in voting to stop the Rescission Package.  Her vote will be critical.  As Chair of the Appropriations Committee, she spent time researching and approving these funds. It’s why we elected her. Why would she negate all her work and all our trust in her? Demand that Susan Collins refuse the Trump administration’s request to claw back these congressionally approved funds to codify ill-conceived DOGE cuts.   Call Senator Susan Collins and urge her to oppose H.R. 4, the Rescissions Act of 2025.  She has 6 offices – you and friends/family can call them all, one per day, starting now.

Contact: Senator Susan Collins: Email: www.collins.senate.gov/contact/email-senator-collins/form

                (202) 224-2523 (Washington DC office)

Urgency: H.R. 4 must pass both chambers by July 18th (Friday); if it fails, Trump cannot request these same rescissions again.  Call every day this week.

  • Save Maine Absentee Voting Coalition

    Save Maine Absentee Voting Coalition

Fair, secure, and accessible elections are the cornerstone of our democracy. But a referendum question coming to Maine voters in November 2025 takes aim at Maine’s safe and secure voting system, including absentee voting. This referendum would make it harder for people across the state to vote – especially seniors, Mainers with a disability, and Mainers without reliable transportation.

In 2024, a citizen’s initiative campaign known as “Voter ID for ME,” collected signatures for regressive and restrictive changes to Maine’s voting laws. The Secretary of State’s office has since certified enough of those signatures, and the referendum question is now poised to be on the ballot on Election Day in November 2025. You can read the full draft proposal here.

Your vote matters. Help us to protect Maine’s strong voting tradition and Save Maine Absentee Voting.
