About Indivisible Bangor

Indivisible Bangor is part of a grassroots movement of thousands of local Indivisible groups with a mission to elect progressive leaders, rebuild our democracy, and resist MAGA extremism. We were founded by a group of Bangor citizens who were alarmed by the 2016 election results, and decided to do something to fight back against Trump and the GOP. We helped flip the House in 2018, take back the White House and Senate in 2020, and hold the Senate in 2022 (and slow the “red wave” to a trickle!).
 
Despite the disappointing outcome in 2024 our work contributed to many critical successes.  Now, facing another four years of a Trump administration our democracy is under threat.  But we will not yield to facism. We will stand together and we’ll fight back in defense of our rights, our communities , and our values. Join us. 

We have meetings Wednesdays from 5pm to 6pm over zoom.

Indivisible Bangor Mission Statement

Our mission is to promote social justice and democracy, including equal protection under the law and equal access to our democratic institutions.

Our beliefs:

  1. We believe in the basic humanity and equality of all people. We believe that protecting our values, our neighbors, and ourselves will require mounting a resistance built on the values of inclusion, tolerance, and fairness.
  2. We believe in truth and transparency in government and in those who lead.
  3. We believe in science and that the climate crisis is the top issue affecting the globe.
  4. We believe that healthcare is a fundamental right and that education which includes civicand historical truth is necessary to an engaged citizenry.
  5. We believe that free, fair and easily accessible elections are fundamental to democracy.
  6. We believe in an inclusive, representative government by the people, of the people, andfor the people, without undue influence by the wealthy and the powerful.
  7. We believe that all citizens need to be involved in the democratic process so thatdemocracy prevails over authoritarianism.
  8. We believe that democracy depends on Americans across the country standing as onenation, indivisible.

Our actions include these examples:

  1. We support free and fair elections by holding Get Out The Vote drives, helping with voter registration, participating in canvassing, as well as making calls, and sending letters and postcards to encourage people to vote.
  2. We identify and promote bills supporting our beliefs by contacting our elected representatives in the following ways: phone calls, letters, in-person visits, demonstrations, petitions, etc.
  3. We call out the hypocrisy and lies of elected leaders at the federal, state, and local levels. We look for truth and accuracy. We demonstrate, carry signs, hold rallies, and town hall meetings to amplify our voices.
  4. We promote volunteer opportunities and alliances to extend our reach.
  5. We hold weekly meetings as a chapter of National Indivisible and are a strictly volunteerorganization. We have a shared leadership model.
  6. We maintain a presence on social media and we contact media outlets for our events toelevate our voices and to cause “good trouble” (as lived by John Lewis).
